North Eaton Ends Hurlers 4-Game Win Streak

April 20, 2009

Jocky Flynn went the distance for the Dags as they ended Limerick's winning ways by a 1-run margin.  Mark McGwire was 4 for 4 in the losing effort and Don Newcombe didn't give up an earned run, but walked 4 batters.  "I can't walk guys like that and expect to win the game.  I've got to find he strike zone and stay in it" said Newcombe after the tough loss.

Hurlers Prevail in 13 Inning Battle

April 19, 2009

Mark McGwire had two balls leave the yard as the Hurlers took down the North Eaton Dags in an extra inning battle that saw 105 plate appearances between the two teams.  Errors almost cost the Hurlers the game.  "We'll definitely be taking some extra fielding practice over the next couple weeks.  These errors are unacceptable and eventually they will come back to bite us in the ass" said Hurlers Manager Jimmy Dugan.

Hurlers Homecoming Doesn't Produce Victory

April 28, 2008

The North Eaton Eddies/Rednecks/Posey DagGummits beat the Hurlers brains in, winning the game by a 10 to 3 Final.  The Hurlers now stand at a CLB worst, 5 and 17.  After an amazing start to the season, Steve Carlton had his third straight rough start, giving up 6 runs in 7 and a third innings.  Frankie Frisch had a good day at the plate for the Hurlers, going 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  "I am sick and tired of the way this team is playing!  They have no [expletive] heart and I'm ready to send them all to AAA and bring up anyone who actually wants to play the game!" said manager Jimmy Dugan.  The Hurlers continue their series with North Eaton on Tuesday.

Hurlers Split Double Header, Ready for some Home Cooking

April 27, 2008

In game 1 of a double header today, the Hurlers dropped the decision to the Ghostmen by the final of 4 to 3.  Things were looking up for the Hurlers but Hoyt Wilhelm blew his 2nd straight save decision and the Ghostmen scored 2 in the bottom of the ninth to win it.  Vida Blue's great pitching performance was wasted.  After the game, Wilhelm was sent to AAA-Cork to work out his problems to make room for more pitching for game 2 of the double header.

The Hurlers were able to win game 2, as Carl Hubbell kept his team in the game just long enough, as the Hurlers exploded for 6 runs in the top of the ninth.  Rube Benton pitched a perfect ninth to secure the 6 to 1 victory.  Enos Slaughter and Travis Jackson had back-to-back 2 RBI hits and Mo Vaughn and George Brett also had RBI hits in the ninth to propel the Hurler offense.  Limerick now heads home to take on the North Eaton Eddies in a 3 game series.
